Welcome to the “LGBT” section
by First Church
First Presbyterian Church warmly welcomes all people regardless of their sexual or gender identity. Our diverse and inclusive congregation has long been active with organizations that promote God’s embrace of all people, such as the Presbyterian Welcome and the Covenant Network. In addition, our Greenwich Village location has blessed us with the opportunity to work shoulder to shoulder with many GLBTQ organizations, including the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, & Transgender Community Center, the Hetrick Martin Institute, and the Ali Forney Center.
We aspire, through God’s grace, to nurture a community that honors the dignity and love of every child, teen, adult, parent, and family. All are invited to join us in a journey of faith. But don’t just take our word for it; here are some of the thoughts and feelings of fellow spiritual travelers:
“Since Joining First Presbyterian Church in the fall of 2002, we have felt more than a warm welcome. We were given an invitation into this community of diverse people who take issues of tolerance, social justice and peace actively into their daily lives. Our lives have been enriched being connected to a lifeline of really Kool folks.”
“We feel lucky to be part of such a wonderful community. When we had our son, we felt even more welcomed as a family. We look forward to going to church because we know we’ll see friends and people who celebrate what makes our family special.” -Suzanne and Eileen
“The ultimate moment for me, in feeling welcome, was when Elizabeth, our daughter, was baptized. It felt comfortable and natural to be in front of the church with my partner, Don, and our daughter as a family. Later I realized it was remarkable that it was such a non-issue.” -Mark
