Church School

Church school classes are offered for children age 3 through grade 12 from the third Sunday in September through the second Sunday in June, except for certain holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, Memorial Day). Classes are held in the Mellin-Macnab Church House during the worship service. Children attend the worship service with their parents at 11 AM, and at about 11:20 AM they leave the service after the Children’s Prayer to go to church school. Teams of volunteer teachers lead the classes.

Registration for all church school classes is ongoing. New students can be enrolled on the first floor of the Mellin-Macnab Church House on Sunday mornings or by calling the church office at (212) 675-6150 during the week.

Currently, the church school classes are divided as follows: three- and four-year-olds; five-year-olds and Kindergarten; first grade; second and third grades; fourth and fifth grades; sixth and seventh grades; and Youth (grades 8-12). We use a selection of curriculum to provide the best learning experiences for each age group. All classes are focused around a Bible story or passage, whose theme is developed through creative project-oriented activities that promote questioning and development of relationships.

Special church school family activities include quarterly chapel services, participation in regular church services, Advent wreath-making, an Advent family dinner, Easter egg decorating and hunt, and fellowship at church picnics.
